WE LAMENT
THOSE WHOSE lives are fragile and delicate are typically unaware that their cause is habitually excluded in public debate. Society's weak and helpless members are likewise unsuspecting of the subtle but unmistakable signs of escalating hostility directed against them. Rarely are they able or permitted to speak for themselves. We lament the tens of millions of aborted unborn babies whose absolutely innocent and impeccable will to live is mercilessly repudiated by judges and legislators whose political activities are mere leisure by comparison.
NO TRAGEDIAN could devise so morbid and oppressive an irony as that played out by self-styled progressive lawmakers "who trust in themselves that they are righteous and despise others". [Lk 18:9], who spurn the cries of the poor even as they exuberantly revel in the bellowing and whooping of their partisan politics. "He who closes his ear to the cry of the poor," says the Lord, "will himself cry out and not be heard." [Pro 21:13]
