TEACHABLE HEART
FATHER, EACH day you summon me to work in your vineyard. Each day you put me to the test. The morning sun mocks my deceitful yes. The evening star taunts my insolent no. Pride gnarls my heart and draws my hands into angry fists. I batter myself with bitterness and foreboding. Who will liberate me from this tyranny but you, O God? Anoint me with mercy that I may again experience peace. Soften my will and give me a youthful spirit.
LORD JESUS, lead me to the gate of the Father's vineyard. Teach me to trust your authority, to conform myself to your wisdom. Give me confidence O Lord, to take the first step into your Kingdom. I do not want to be a stranger to righteousness. Do not banish me from the dwelling of the just. Receive my sorrow as the pledge of a teachable heart. Receive my assent as the promise of faithful service. In your Name, I pray. Amen.
