LEE BOWERS
Mrs. Lee Bowers, wife of attorney William L. Bowers, Jr. for 52 years, is the mother of 6 and grandmother of 11. She has been actively involved in Houston, Texas community since 1956, while participating and holding offices in the Heritage Society, Alley Theater, Houston Opera and Symphony Auxiliaries, Assistance League, Hospice and Women’s Auxiliary to the Houston Bar. During the years of raising her family, she was active in school, scouting and athletic sports with her children.
In 1969 she founded the Marian Activities for the Galveston-Houston Diocese and has continued as the Director. This organization sponsored two Rosary Rallies and the office became the umbrella for all organizations in the diocese involved with Marian devotions. It also promoted the yearly Mariological conferences at St. Thomas University. The office expanded to promote Divine Mercy in 1996.
In 1987 she founded the Hearts for Peace that celebrated monthly Peace Masses, promoting the work of the Legion of Mary and First Friday and Saturday devotions. This includes prayer for priests and vocations to religious life.
For over 45 years she has been an active promoter of Eucharistic Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. In the late 1990’s, she directed and put on two Marian Conferences in Houston. And during this time, she expanded the Marian office to promote St. Louis de Montfort consecration in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston.
Lee has remained actively involved in the Catholic Community:--her parish St. Cecilia, Teresians, Charity Guild of Catholic Women, Serra Club and the Equerstian Order of the Holy Sepulchre, along with NEA (New Evangelization of the Americas). She was a promoter in helping to bring Catholic Radio to the Galveston-Houston area. Her love for travel and people has involved her in leading pilgrimages to Shrines world-wide since 1987.
In 1999 Lee joined with Dr. Bryan Thatcher in the outreach ministry Eucharistic Apostles of the Divine Mercy. This ministry is an outreach of the Marians of the Immaculate Conception promoting the “Message of Divine Mercy, a Way of Life”, and Eucharistic Adoration. On behalf of this ministry Lee is speaking in parishes and presenting “Days of Reflection”. She also helps setting up cenacles of Divine Mercy, encouraging the chaplet for the sick and dying, especially during adoration, promoting pro-life and spreading the Mercy message---Our Lord’s message of love today for a hurting world. Lee filmed a 13 week series on EWTN that aired October 2005.
Lee worked with Leonardo DeFilippis in the promotion of the St. Luke’s film "Therese" in the diocese. Over the last two years, Lee has worked with Laurence D. Behr, executive director for the Arch of Triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary and International Shrine of the Holy Innocents initiative for the Culture of Life, a project to be built in Buffalo, New York. Since 2002 Lee has broadcast monthly on Radio Maria on the theme of Divine Mercy on Radio Maria.
Lee has fervently evangelized the truth of the Catholic faith, the meaning of God’s mercy and an understanding of a deep and prayerful love of Mary, the Mother of God and the Church.
